History of Bulanon National High School

Bulanon National High School traces its roots back to 1997 when it was established as an extension of Sagay National High School. It was Dr. Milagros A. Mainit who served as its first principal. The school owes its existence to the dedicated efforts of Emilio Sumbi Sr., the Chairman of Barangay Bulanon, and Joseph Marañon, the City Mayor. These two esteemed individuals shared a passion for education and aimed to leave a legacy for the children of the community and neighboring barangays. The school started with four classrooms and four teachers, with the goal of serving learners from Talusan Elementary School, Bulanon Elementary School, Plaridel Elementary School, and nearby barangays.

Since its inception, Bulanon National High School has had nine school heads who have managed the institution. The school administrators express their gratitude to all those who have contributed to the delivery of quality education to their learners. The school has come a long way from its modest beginnings, with the few classrooms in the main campus expanding to establish an extension campus at San Vicente Barangay Bulanon, about four kilometers from the barangay proper. This extension campus is now known as Bulanon National High School Onofre-Extension.

In 2012, the extension campus began with only 15 students and one teacher, and it was a gradual step towards its first graduation in the school year 2014 to 2015 in the Basic Education Curriculum. The journey was arduous, but with the teachers’ unrelenting desire to excel, the school has continuously produced new graduates since its establishment in 1997.

Over time, Bulanon National High School has flourished into a center for learning and a cradle for honing the skills of children with any gifts to become productive citizens of their communities. This growing institution has produced numerous professionals from various fields. As the K-12 curriculum took effect, significant changes were made in the academic and physical features of the school. New buildings were constructed, and training facilities, although limited, were provided by local and state vendors through Adopt-a-School Program. Many technical-vocational courses were offered, and teachers were encouraged to pursue higher education.

The school’s success can be attributed to the joint efforts of internal and external stakeholders, a community of friends from the city government and the community leaders who have shown great support for the school’s programs. Bulanon National High School has established linkages with immersion partners, and it continues to produce intelligent graduates who are competitive and ready to face the challenges of the real world. Despite the obstacles it faces from time to time, the school stands firm and is always prepared to explore all possibilities for greater opportunities.
